The statement was made during talks between Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung and Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith in Vientiane on Thursday. Prime Minister Hung is leading a high-level Vietnamese delegation on an official visit to Laos on October 8 and 9.
The two sides agreed to strengthen defense and security cooperation and work closely to maintain political stability, security, and social order in both countries.
They also agreed to boost economic cooperation, improve connectivity in transport, infrastructure, logistics, and border crossings, and work toward bilateral trade of 5 billion US dollars, with a longer-term target of 10 billion dollars a year.
On education, training, and human resources, the two sides hailed the Laos-Vietnam Friendship University as a symbolic project that will connect knowledge and strengthen friendship between the two countries for future generations.
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung also announced that Vietnam will build two schools in Laos’ Houaphanh and Champasak provinces, at a total cost of 2 million US dollars.
The two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of 11 cooperation agreements covering security, justice, finance, energy, education, ethnic affairs, religion, and local cooperation.
They also attended the handover of a national data and citizen identification center project and the launch of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship University project.
