(VOVWORLD) - Analyst Carl Thayer, an Emeritus Professor at the University of New South Wales has called China’s latest action in the East Sea (internationally known as the South China Sea) "provocative" and "illegal," saying it has no basis under international law.

(VOVWORLD) - China has recently expanded its illegal claims in the East Sea (internationally known as the South Chin Sea) by announcing the establishment of two districts in Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago. This action flouts international law, violates Vietnam’s sovereignty and indisputable sovereign rights over the two archipelagoes, threatens peace, undermines cooperation between countries, and tarnishes China’s image in the region.

(VOVWORLD) -People and authorities of Vietnam’s Da Nang city and Khanh Hoa province, which administer Vietnam’s Hoang Sa and Truong Sa districts, have voiced their indignation over China’s announcement of its establishment of the so-called Xisha district at Vietnam’s Hoang Sa (Paracel) archipelago, and Nansha district at Vietnam’s Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelago, in the so-called Sansha city.
