(VOVworld)-Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day is taking place from Wednesday until Sunday at the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture and Tourism in Hanoi’s Son Tay town.

May 19 has been observed as Vietnam Ethnic Groups’ Cultural Day since 2008 as part of Vietnam’s national target programs on socio-economic, educational and cultural development. This year’s event draws patriarchs, artisans and people from many ethnic minority groups from across Vietnam including Muong, Thai, Kho Mu, E De, San Chay, Dao, Ta Oi, Khmer , Lo Lo, H’re, Gia Rai and Co Tu.

“The participants not only showcase their cultures but also take part in cultural exchanges with other ethnic groups,” said Lam Van Khang, Acting Head of the Management Board of the Vietnam National Village for Ethnic Culture.

Themed “Melody from the forest”, the festival features an exhibition and performances of bamboo musical instruments, a display of bamboo items, handicrafts, cuisine and martial art demonstrations. It will also involve traditional ceremonies of ethnic minority groups, including a ritual to worship ancestors of the Lo Lo people in Ha Giang province. Visitors will have a chance to join traditional folk games such as tug-of-war, which has been recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
