Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin on Monday called the visits a serious violation of the "One China" principle and a political provocation. Wang said Beijing strongly opposes and denounces the visits because they destroy China-US relations as well as peace and stability on the Taiwan Strait.

He added that China will take countermeasures against the US and its officials without fail.

Earlier within less than 2 months, US Under Secretary of State Keith Krach and Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar visited Taiwan. They were the highest-ranking US officials to visit Taiwan since Washington severed diplomatic ties with it in 1979.
