The presidential election is part of a transition plan laid out in July after the military deposed Islamist President Mohamed Morsi. After the bill was announced by legal and constitutional affairs adviser, Ali Awad at a press conference, the Presidential Election Commission (PEC) is expected to announce the voting date in April which paves the way for candidates including army chief Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to take part. The bill includes some controversial articles related to appealing prevention to PEC’s decisions. Fierce discussions during the bill’s compiling process resulted in the postponement of the presidential election scheduled to be held on February 18th.
