Trump posted the message on the social media platform Truth Social on the afternoon of April 7 (Washington time), just two hours before the deadline set for Iran to reach an agreement with the United States 8:00 p.m. local time on April 7.

In his post, US President Trump said the decision was made at Pakistan’s request, following consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. The move is conditional on Iran fully, immediately, and safely reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

President Trump described the move as a “two-way ceasefire” and stated that Washington is nearing a definitive agreement for long-term peace with Iran, as well as broader stability in the Middle East. He also revealed that the United States has received a 10-point proposal from Iran, which he described as a viable basis for negotiations.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Supreme National Security Council confirmed on Wednesday that a two-week ceasefire agreement had been reached through mediation by Pakistan, with the approval of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.

Tehran said negotiations on a longer-term agreement will take place on Friday in Islamabad. During the two-week ceasefire period, Iran pledged to ensure the safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz in coordination with its armed forces.
