(VOVWORLD) - The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) said Sunday that Iran has activated 1,044 centrifuges at the Fordow uranium enrichment plant.

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) quoted AEOI head Ali Akbar Salehi as saying that the move is in line with Iran’s steps to reduce its commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal. Detail of uranium enrichment levels at the plant were not revealed.
In 2015, the P5+1 group - the US, Russia, China, France, and the UK, plus Germany - signed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action with Iran, which shut down Iran’s nuclear activities, including the Fordow plant’s operation, in exchange for sanctions relief, including the removal of a weapons ban.
