(VOVWORLD) - Speaking at a White House press conference on Tuesday, marking one year since returning to office, US President Donald Trump said the United States and NATO will come to an agreement on the future of Greenland that will satisfy both sides.
The remarks came ahead of his upcoming visit to Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum, where he is also scheduled to meet NATO allies.
President Trump said he believes the people of Greenland could be persuaded that they would be happier as part of the United States.
Over the weekend, the US imposed a 10 percent tariff on Denmark and seven other NATO members in connection with the Greenland issue. Washington has also repeatedly stated that it does not rule out the use of force to take the Arctic island.
