The approved package includes a previously agreed set of levies worth 24.7 billion USD, targeting American products such as soybeans. On top of that, the European Commission (EC) this month proposed an additional 84.5 billion USD in tariffs aimed at a wider range of US exports, including aircraft and automobiles.

The EC on Wednesday emphasized that its tariffs are a direct response to the new 30% tariff rate announced by the US, which is scheduled to come into force on August 1. The EU’s priority remains finding a mutually beneficial outcome through dialogue, the EC said.
