The Nepalese Prime Minister’s Office posted on social media on Saturday that a joint rescue team of Nepalese soldiers and South Korean disaster-response specialists rescued a man from a 225-metre-long tunnel at the Trishuli hydropower project in central Nepal.
Also on Saturday, a woman was rescued from a house in Nuwakot district in central Nepal, one of the hardest hit areas by the floods.
Most infrastructure in the area was destroyed when torrents of floodwater carrying rocks and mud swept down the Trishuli River valley, following the partial collapse of a melting glacier in the border area between Nepal and China’s Tibet region. According to Nepal’s disaster management authorities, more than 1,300 people were killed and about 5,000 remained missing.
The Chinese authorities reported that a landslide occurred Saturday morning in Suichuan County, Ji’an City, Jiangxi Province, killing at least one person and leaving 11 others missing.
