In Hanoi, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army on Thursday organized an art program called "The Fatherland Remembers – A Promise to Mother".
It celebrated the nation's enduring gratitude to those who sacrificed for the Fatherland, paying tribute to martyrs, Heroic Vietnamese Mothers, wounded and sick soldiers, martyrs' relatives, and veterans.
The program also highlighted the tireless efforts of military personnel and specialized forces searching for, recovering, and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers.
General Phan Van Giang, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense, asked all officers and soldiers to make every effort to fulfill the mission of searching for, recovering, and identifying the remains of fallen soldiers, and to be creative in accomplishing this task.
“We must carry out this ission with determination to ease the pain of families still searching for their loved ones and to fulfill our responsibility to those who sacrificed for the nation," said General Giang.
A candle-lighting ceremony and a performance of the musical play "A Maiden's Sky" were held Thursday at the Dong Loc T-Junction national special relic site in Ha Tinh province.
The play recounted the heroic sacrifice of 10 young female volunteers, aged 17 to 24, who lost their lives at Dong Loc T-Junction on July 24, 1968, working to keep traffic open along a vital supply route to the southern battlefield.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the Military Region 4 High Command organized commemorative activities in Quang Tri province which included an offering of incense at Truong Son National Martyrs' Cemetery, Road 9 National Martyrs' Cemetery, Vinh Linh Martyrs' Cemetery, and the Quang Tri Ancient Citadel Special National Relic Site.
Delegations visited policy beneficiary families and encouraged forces participating in the nationwide 500-day campaign to find and identify the remains of fallen soldiers.
