The committee, headed by Vice Chairman of Nepal’s National Planning Commission Gunakhar Bhatta, has six weeks to prepare a Post-Disaster Needs Assessment as a basis for mobilizing domestic and international resources for reconstruction.
Bhatta said the task force has begun collecting and analyzing data. The assessment is divided into 7 sectors – infrastructure, health, education, climate change, production, agriculture, and other.
Nepal has estimated property damage from the floods to be around 2.65 billion USD, affecting 7,570 houses and 33,000 people. The floods also damaged 48 government offices, 55 kilometers of roads, 37 vehicle bridges, 68 foot bridges, more than 1,800 hectares of agricultural land, and other infrastructure.
Nepal is continuing search and rescue and recovery operations. According to an official update on Monday, authorities have assisted 13,400 people in distress and recovered 1,385 bodies. Some 5,000 people remain missing, including roughly 600 foreign nationals from 35 countries.
