Taking the oath before the National Assembly, Chairman Tran Thanh Man said, “Under the sacred national flag, before the National Assembly and voters nationwide, I, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, solemnly swear absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, the people and the Constitution, and pledge to fulfill all tasks entrusted to me by the Party, the State and the people.”
In his inaugural remarks, Chairman Man said Vietnam is at a historic turning point.
“The 16th National Assembly will continue striving to be truly a legislature of the people, by the people and for the people, serving as the highest representative body of the people and the highest state authority, embodying the law-governed socialist state. We will work toward the goal of a prosperous people and a strong, democratic, equitable and civilized nation, fulfill our constitutional mandates, and live up to the trust of the Party, the State and the people,” he said.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man was born in 1962 in the Mekong city of Can Tho. He holds a doctorate in economics and a bachelor’s degree in politics. He is currently a Politburo member, and Secretary of the NA Party Committee.
He served as an alternate member of the Party Central Committee in the 10th tenure; a member of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th, 13th and 14th tenures; a member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat in the 12th tenure; and a Politburo member in the 13th and 14th tenures. He has been a NA deputy for the 13th, 14th, 15th and 16th legislatures.
