His executive order said crime in Washington is spiraling out of control, posing a serious threat to public officials, residents, and visitors, and disrupting transportation and the operations of the federal government. Trump said he intends to make Washington one of the safest cities anywhere in the world.
The move came after Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old software engineer and a former member of the Department of Government Efficiency, was attacked during a carjacking attempt.
Prior to signing the order on Sunday, Trump announced the removal of Washington's homeless population, and said Washington will no longer be “a sanctuary” for undocumented immigrants.
