Digital transformation has now become a key driver of economic growth. The information technology sector generated around 118 billion USD in revenue in 2024, while the digital economy now accounts for 14–15% of GDP and is expected to reach 20% this year.

“We need to concentrate resources on developing digital infrastructure, including hard infrastructure like data centers and telecommunications systems and soft infrastructure, such as digital platforms and national databases. It is essential to accelerate digital identity, striving for 100% of adults to have a digital ID and public service account by 2026,” Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung said.

At the event, the Ministry of Science and Technology honored organizations and individuals for their creativity and dedication to promoting digital transformation nationwide. The 2024 Digital Transformation Index (DTI) rankings for provinces and cities were also announced.

After five years of implementation, Vietnam’s National Digital Transformation Program has achieved significant progress. Vietnam’s digital infrastructure has expanded rapidly, with broadband telecommunications networks now covering more than 99% of villages nationwide. Vietnam ranks 20th globally in mobile internet speed, and 5G networks have begun initial rollout.

Nearly 40% of administrative procedures are now fully processed online—nine times higher than in 2019. According to the United Nations, Vietnam’s E-Government Development Index has moved up 15 places since the previous ranking in 2022.
