Ensuring legitimate rights of the missing crewmen

The Overseas Labour Management Department under the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has asked companies recruiting Vietnamese crewmen to work for the South Korea fishing vessel Jeong Woo 2, which was caught fire in the Ross Sea in New Zealand on Jan. 11, to have measures to ensure their legitimate rights and interests. The Human Resource Development Corporation and the Civil Engineering Construction Corporation No.1, which sent the sailors to work on the Jeong Woo 2, said they bought insurance for all 23 sailors at the highest rate. In case of their missing or death, their relatives will receive a maximum compensation of 16,000 USD. Injury compensation will depend on the severe level. The companies have contacted insurance company to finish the compensation procedures for the victim’s families.
