(VOVworld)- Cities and provinces nationwide are celebrating the International Women’s Day on March 8. Speaking at a ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City, Deputy Secretary of the municipal Party organization, Nguyen Van Dua, called for more practical activities by the local women’s unions: “The Women’s Union should attract more women from rural areas, female workers and the poor. More credit programs and environmental protection activities should be promoted for women so that they could contribute more to their families and the society.”

Young men look for gifts for their dear women

Ho Chi Minh City’s Labor Union the same day presented gifts to women who suffered from work accidents. Tran Kim Yen from Thang Loi Textile Company says this is an opportunity for women to overcome difficulties: “I got an accident at work and my hand was injured. The company has paid all hospital cost and given me another job. I enjoy the anniversary as it made me stronger in overcoming my misfortune.”

The southern province of Binh Dinh held cooking contest and training courses on gender equality and anti-domestic violence on this occasion. Soc Trang and Thanh Hoa provinces held a meeting to highlight the role of businesswomen while Phu Yen province held an exhibition of handicraft products made by local women.

Meanwhile, Hai Phong’s Women’s Union presented awards on Wednesday to 7 outstanding women. Hoa Binh and Soc Trang provinces held several meetings and contests for local women. The Vietnamese Embassy in Moscow also held a meeting to mark the event. And Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Pham Xuan Son conveyed his best wishes to Vietnamese women in Russia.
