(VOVworld) – A map and document exhibit showing Vietnam’s sovereignty over Hoang Sa (Paracel) and Truong Sa (Spratly) archipelagoes opened in Quang Nam province on Friday.

Doctor Tran Duc Anh, Deputy Director of Da Nang City’s Institute for Socio-Economic Research introduces the exhibits.

The exhibit - a collection of previously published materials by domestic and international researchers and scholars – is historical and legal evidence proving Vietnam’s sovereignty over the islands in the East Sea. It includes a 4-volume atla and 30 maps published by China in different historical periods, none of them including the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagoes, which lie in Vietnam’s territorial sea. Also on display are photos showing the sovereignty enforcement and the struggles of the Vietnamese army and people to defend Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Truong Minh Tuan, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications, highlighted new things of this exhibit: “we have displayed debris of a Vietnamese marine police vessel which was rammed by Chinese vessels when China illegally placed its Oil Rig Haiyang 981 in Vietnam’s Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf. Our message is that the defense of Vietnam’s territorial waters is the shared responsibility of all people.”
The exhibit, the 14th of its kind so far, will close next Thursday.
