(VOVworld) – A number of meetings have been organized in the framework of the first Senior Officials’ Meeting of APEC in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa provinve. These include the 9th meeting of APEC’s Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI-9), the 1st meeting of APEC Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance (SCSC-1), and 44th meeting of the Intellectual Property Rights Experts’ Group (IPEG-44).
At the 11th meeting of APEC disaster risk mitigation group, Tran Quang Hoai, a member from the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, said the Vietnamese government has worked out a number of measures, including adjusting the national strategy for natural disaster prevention, response and mitigation until 2025 with a vision to 2030. Vietnam commits to fully participate in APEC’s activities and is ready to share experience in natural disaster prevention and learn from other countries: “The top priority for this year is to promote scientific research and apply advanced technology to support the effort to deal with natural disasters. We hope to receive support for our proposals on enhancing science and technology to reinforce resilience to natural disasters, especially in coastal areas”.

The meeting of APEC’s Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation will review the ongoing projects and propose measures to enhance PPSTI’s cooperation with other sub-committees in the framework of APEC cooperative mechanism. As Vice Chair of PPSTI group, Vietnam is expected to present new proposals on developing business ecosystem for innovation in APEC developing economies, update the project on trade promotion, investment in scientific research and developing potential technology in foreign markets to Vietnam’s prioritized areas until 2020, and present ideas related to APEC Science Prize for Innovation, Research and Education (ASPIRE).

The 1st meeting of APEC Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance will include a meeting of APEC Specialist Regional Bodies, and a conference of the Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformance. Those meetings will work out standards to facilitate trade activities in APEC, as well as priorities to promote digital economy in the 4th Industrial Revolution, and implementation of Good Regulatory Practice.

The 44th meeting of the Intellectual Property Rights Experts’ Group (IPEG-44) will discuss enhancing dialogues on intellectual property policy and measures to increase the efficiency of intellectual property protection, and promote communication to raise people’s awareness on this issue.
