Prime Minister Chinh received UK Ambassador Iain Frew to Vietnam in Hanoi, where he said that there remain significant potential for cooperation between the two countries.

PM Chinh proposed bolstering comprehensive cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, finance, education and training, science and technology, defense and security, energy transition and climate change response, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges. He called for facilitating visa for Vietnamese citizens, initially by waiving visa requirements for holders of diplomatic passports.

Ambassador Frew affirmed the UK’s willingness to contribute to Vietnam's efforts to achieve sustainable development goals, especially green transformation, digital transformation, and energy transition. He agreed to actively coordinate with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to promote the effective implementation of the contents of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership framework and the outcomes of Party General Secretary To Lam's visit to the UK.

The Ambassador agreed with the Prime Minister's proposal to continue exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at the high level, through all channels to enhance political trust. The UK will continue to cooperate with and support Vietnam in developing an international financial center; expand cooperation in training between universities of the two countries and promote English as a second language in schools in Vietnam, he added.

The Ambassador stressed the need to boost cultural cooperation and people-to-people exchanges, enable the Vietnamese community to integrate well into the UK, play a role as a bridge of friendship and contribute to further cooperation between the two countries.

Regarding multilateral cooperation, both sides agreed on the importance of strengthening dialogue that respects international law to maintain peace and stability in the region and the world, including ensuring freedom, security, and safety of navigation and overflight in the East Sea.
