(VOVWORLD) - The founding of the Communist Party of Viet Nam on February 3, 1930, was a major political event, marking a decisive historical turning point for Vietnam. Over the past 96 years, the Party has steadfastly upheld its leadership role, guiding Vietnam’s revolutionary cause to achieve historically significant accomplishments, including national independence, peace, and freedom while promoting renewal, international integration, and national development.

History over the past 96 years has proven that the leadership role of the Communist Party of Vietnam is the result of historical choice and revolutionary practice. Throughout the journey, the Party has constantly renewed and improved itself to meet the growing demands of the revolution, with the overarching goal of ensuring prosperity and happiness for the people.
Glorious achievements under the Party’s leadership
Over the past 96 years, all major breakthroughs of the Vietnamese revolution have been closely linked to the Party’s leadership, from the victory of the August Revolution in 1945, which gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, to the triumphs in struggles for national liberation and reunification and the historic achievements of renewal, industrialization, modernization and international integration.

From a backward agriculture-based economy, Vietnam has become one of the world’s fastest-growing economies. GDP per capita increased from just over 100 USD in 1986 to 5,000 USD in 2025, placing Vietnam in the upper-middle-income group. The economic structure has shifted strongly from agriculture toward industry and services. From a closed economy, Vietnam has become a major exporter, with total trade in 2025 many times higher than in 1990. It is now a member of multiple new-generation free trade agreements and an attractive destination for multinational corporations. All these things are clear evidence of the Party’s leadership capacity.
What defines the leadership of the Party is its steadfastness to its goals combined with flexibility in its leadership methods. Upholding national independence associated with socialism, taking Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s Thought as its ideological foundation, and placing the interests of the nation and the people above all else are its immutable principles. On that basis, the Party has constantly renewed and rectified itself, enhancing its leadership capacity and combat strength as the leading force of the State and society, as affirmed by General Secretary To Lam at the 14th National Party Congress.
The Party leader said: “Vietnam’s current stature, potential, position, and international prestige are the crystallization of many factors, including thousands of years of national construction and defense, 96 years of Party leadership, 40 years of renewal, innovative leadership thinking grounded in Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh’s Thought, and the enduring sacrifices and contributions of generations of revolutionaries, Party members, and people for independence, freedom and happiness.”
Continuing the historic mission
Building on the remarkable achievements of the past 96 years under the Party’s leadership, the 14th National Party Congress marks a milestone of special significance, shaping strategic thinking, vision, and national development orientations toward the mid-21st century.
The timely issuance of Politburo Directive 1 and the action program to implement the Congress Resolution demonstrates a strong spirit of resolute action, moving from correct policy to effective implementation, from orientation to action, from political determination to measurable results.
General Secretary To Lam said: “The spirit of action must be translated into concrete solutions and implemented rigorously throughout the entire system. Every Party committee, Party organization, Party member, and agency, especially leaders, must proactively turn correct awareness into effective implementation, high determination into clear outcomes, combining direction and management with inspection, oversight and accountability.”
In response to the Party Central Committee’s direction, provinces and cities have swiftly and decisively translated the spirit of the 14th Congress Resolution into concrete action.
Chairman of the Khanh Hoa provincial People’s Committee Tran Phong said: “Departments, sectors, and localities are developing detailed monthly and weekly plans focused on removing bottlenecks, improving the investment environment, enhancing competitiveness, and raising the quality of services for people and businesses in line with their respective functions.”
Chairman of the Cao Bang provincial People’s Committee Le Hai Hoa said: “We need to boost rapid sustainable development toward the goal of double-digit growth nationwide. For Cao Bang this is both an opportunity and a challenge. The priority is to improve institutions and ensure that implementation, decentralization, and delegation of authority are carried out thoroughly, yet under effective control.”
Throughout its 96-year journey of leading the revolution, the Party has affirmed its pivotal role through sound policies and effective implementation. Its achievements show that in Vietnam only the Communist Party of Vietnam is capable of leading the people to a life of prosperity, freedom, and happiness where the interests of the people are inseparably linked with the Party’s cause.
