Localities celebrate Vietnam’s Population Day

(VOVworld) – Vietnam has celebrated its national Population Day on December 26.

The northern province of Tuyen Quang held several out-door activities on Wednesday to involve more administrative agencies and the whole community to raise awareness of population and family planning for sustainable development. The same day authorities of the Red River delta province of Thai Binh hailed outstanding collaborators who have carried projects on reducing imbalanced gender ratio at birth. The project on controlling coastal population, through its 4-year implementation, has improved locals’ understanding about reproductive health.

This year Vietnam begins its National Population and Reproductive Health Strategy 2011-2020 and the National Target Program for Population and Family Planning for the 2012-2015 period. The programs will focus on communication activities to change behaviors and reproductive health services to shorten the birth rate gap among different regions.
