The joint statement by 21 nations, including Britain, France, Australia, and Spain said the settlement plan risks undermining security and fuels further violence and instability, taking the region further away from peace while bringing “no benefits to the Israeli people”. The statement called for the immediate cancellation of the decision.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, the Palestinian Authority, and multiple countries in the region also condemned Israel’s plan.
Meanwhile, Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich described the plan’s approval as a significant step that erases the two-state delusion and consolidates the Jewish people’s hold on the heart of the Land of Israel.
