Addressing the event, Mr. Phout Sinmalavong, Minister of Education and Sports, said the Lao delegation of 435 members will compete in 29 sports at the Games. He said he hopes the team will bring the spirit and energy to achieve strong results at the Games.

At the previous SEA Games in the Philippines in 2019, Lao athletes won 35 medals, ranking 10th out of 11 participating countries.
