The deposit followed the April 7 decision by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam to ratify the Convention, making Vietnam the first country in Southeast Asia and the third in the world to do so.

Ambassador Viet said that hosting the signing ceremony for the Convention in Hanoi and being among the first three countries to ratify it reflect Vietnam’s proactive and substantive contributions to bringing the treaty into force at an early date.

He expressed hope that more countries would soon ratify the Convention and turn commitments into concrete action. In October 2025, Vietnam hosted the signing ceremony for the Convention and a high-level conference in Hanoi, drawing leaders and senior representatives from more than 110 countries and international organizations.

The UN Convention against Cybercrime is the first international legal instrument adopted by the UN to establish a comprehensive, unified and legally binding global framework for the prevention, investigation and prosecution of cybercrime.
