(VOVWORLD) - Japanese media on Tuesday widely reported on the opening of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam, underscoring the political significance of the event and Vietnam’s economic targets for the next five years.

Kyodo News highlighted Vietnam’s strong emphasis on setting economic development goals and pursuing a comprehensive foreign policy.
Nikkei cited Vietnam’s target of achieving annual economic growth of at least 10 percent over the next five years, noting that the country will mark the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party of Vietnam in 2030. The newspaper said the coming five years will be crucial for Vietnam’s journey toward becoming a developed country.
Mainichi pointed out Vietnam’s goal of becoming a high-income developed nation by 2045, describing it as challenging but noting that Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasized fundamental reform of the growth model.
Meanwhile, Sankei analyzed Vietnam’s priorities for economic development while pursuing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and multilateralization and diversification of foreign relations.
