ASEAN Coordination Council discusses East Timor's ASEAN membership
(VOVWORLD) - The ASEAN Coordination Council’s Working Group convened its 9thmeeting in Da Nang on Thursday to discuss East Timor’s preparation for ASEAN membership.
In his address, Deputy Foreign Minister Nguyen Quoc Dung, who chaired the meeting, said the working group needs to assess East Timor’s readiness to join the ASEAN and its potential impacts on the organization. He said Vietnam will work closely with other ASEAN countries help East Timor in joining ASEAN. East Timor applied to join ASEAN in 2011. A number assessments on the country’s membership readiness have been made before being submitted to ASEAN leaders for approval.
