Wasit governor, Mohammed al-Miyahi, told the media that local authorities have now filed a lawsuit against the shopping mall and the owner of the building.

Videos shared across social media platforms showed the five-storey building engulfed in flames overnight, as firefighters battled to bring the blaze under control.

The cause is under investigation. Governor al-Miyahi said that preliminary findings will be released within 48 hours.
