In an interview with reporters in Beijing, Ambassador Binh described the trip as the most significant bilateral diplomatic event between the two Parties and countries in 2026.
It marks General Secretary and State President To Lam’s first overseas visit since Vietnam consolidated its key leadership positions at the first session of the 16th National Assembly, and his first trip to China following the 14th National Party Congress.
The visit also follows a series of high-level exchanges, including the state visit to Vietnam by Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping one year earlier.
“The common perceptions reached between the high-ranking leaders of the two countries within the framework of this visit will play a profound strategic role in guiding the development trend of relations between the two Parties and two countries in the coming period,” said Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh.
The diplomat informed that with a packed work schedule, Party General Secretary and President To Lam will meet with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping and other high-ranking Chinese leaders. During the visit, the two top leaders will also meet and speak with representatives of the younger generation from both countries participating in the "Red Journey for Youth Research and Study" program, which the two leaders initiated in April 2025.
Mr. Lam will deliver a policy speech at Tsinghua University, meet with relatives of prominent friendship figures, and launch people-to-people exchange, cultural and artistic cooperation, and tourism initiatives.
