The 236th anniversary of the Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da victory is held on the evening of February 2 (the 5th day of the Year of the Snake).

In the spring of the Year of the Rooster 1789, under the command of Emperor Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue, the Tay Son insurgent army conducted a lightning attack, defeating 290,000 Qing troops and liberating the capital city Thang Long (now called Hanoi). This was one of the most glorious victories of the Vietnamese people in their history of fighting foreign invaders.

The highlight of the festival is an art program called "Dong Da – Golden History, Advancing to the Future." The program features semi-realistic scenes enhanced by 3D mapping technology, combining light, music, singing, circus acts, dance, and drumming to bring history to life.

Viewers say they now know more about the history and heroic merits of Emperor Quang Trung-Nguyen Hue.

“This program reviews history so that our children and grandchildren can learn about and forever remember Emperor Quang Trung and the victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da.”

“I feel so proud of the contributions of Emperor Quang Trung and the national heroes who safeguarded national independence.”

“The victory of Ngoc Hoi-Dong Da was a glorious victory for the nation. I think the younger generation needs to learn more about history and remember the merits of our national heroes."

The festival will run through Tuesday.
