During the resistance war against the US, the Brigade trained more than 5,000 officers and soldiers for key battlefields and took part in over 300 operations. It sank or damaged more than 370 enemy vessels and destroyed large amounts of military equipment. The unit also contributed directly to the liberation of the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago, playing a significant role in the country’s overall victory.

After national reunification, the Brigade continued to defend the southwestern border, and has carried out international duties in Cambodia. It has remained steadfast in safeguarding Vietnam’s maritime and island sovereignty.

“We have gone through 60 years of building, fighting, winning and growing, guided by President Ho Chi Minh’s teaching that ‘special forces mean special missions, special honour, and require special effort,’” said Vice Admiral Tran Thanh Nghiem, Commander of the Vietnam People’s Navy.

Brigade 126 has been awarded by the Party and State three Hero of the People’s Armed Forces titles, two First Class Fatherland Protection Orders, along with a letter of commendation from the Minister of National Defense.
