The suspect has been identified as Mohammad Umar, a doctor at Al Falah Medical College in Faridabad, Haryana State. He is accused of being a member of a Faridabad branch linked to extremist groups operating in Jammu and Kashmir.

Umar is said to be a close associate of Adeel Ahmad Rather, a former senior resident doctor at Anantnag Medical College in Kashmir. Rather was arrested by Indian security forces last week along with a large cache of explosives.

Based on Rather’s testimony, security forces launched another raid in Faridabad, leading them to Umar, who is suspected of driving the Hyundai i20 car loaded with ammonium nitrate that caused the explosion near the Red Fort on Sunday evening. Surveillance footage shows the vehicle entering the parking area near the Red Fort at 3:19 p.m. and leaving at 6:48 p.m. — just minutes before the explosion. The video captured a masked man behind the wheel, later identified as Umar.
