He made the remarks while attending a forum on cooperation in higher education, science, technology and innovation between Vietnam and China, and delivering a keynote speech at Tsinghua University.

Mr. Lam stressed the need to make science, technology, innovation and digital transformation new highlights in Vietnam-China relations, noting that Vietnam attaches great importance to cooperation with China in complementary fields, particularly artificial intelligence, big data, semiconductors and automation.

“Education, training and the development of high-quality human resources must be top priorities,” he said.

To move forward in the 21st century, Vietnam needs a new generation with a solid scientific foundation, the ability to master modern technologies, an innovative mindset and strong international integration capacity, the Vietnamese top leader said, adding that Vietnam hopes more of its students, researchers and young scientists will have opportunities to study and conduct research at leading institutions in China, including Tsinghua University.

“I also hope that Tsinghua University will continue to expand cooperation with Vietnamese universities and research institutes. I firmly believe that investing in people, in education and in young scientists is the most strategic investment for the future of relations between our two countries.”

Party leader and State President To Lam is currently on a state visit to China until Friday.
