President joins border guards’ Tet charity program

(VOVWORLD) - President Luong Cuong applauded border guard officers and soldiers for taking care of locals in anticipation of Tet, the Lunar New Year festival, saying that this act demonstrates a sense of responsibility, the national tradition of mutual support, and the good nature of the Vietnam People's Army.

President Cuong was speaking at a program called "Border spring warms the heart of villagers" organized by the Border Guard Command and the Lai Chau provincial authorities in Sin Ho district on Thursday evening. He presented 200 houses to people in Lai Chau’s border areas and 11 special gifts to families who have rendered meritorious service to the nation.

“Such a meaningful program has involved many agencies, organizations, enterprises, and individuals. The breeding cows, gifts, scholarships for poor students, and 400 houses presented today will help every poor family in border areas enjoy a happy Tet,” said Mr. Cuong.

This is the 10th year the Army has organized the program “Border spring warms the heart of villagers" which expresses the gratitude of the border guards for local ethnic minorities.
