Minister Counsellor Nguyen Hoang Nguyen, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, delivered a speech at the opening general debate of the annual session of the Special Committee on Peacekeeping Operations on Tuesday. The event was attended by President of the 77th UN General Assembly Csaba Korosi, representatives of member states, including 125 countries sending forces to join the UN peacekeeping, and international and regional organizations.

Speaking at the debate, Nguyen said Vietnam supports the UN's efforts to build a global partnership on peacekeeping and promotes cooperation between the UN and regional organizations, including ASEAN.

More than 76,000 troops are carrying out UN peacekeeping tasks in 12 missions in four regions, mainly in Africa. Since 2014, Vietnam has deployed more than 520 military and police officers to UN peacekeeping missions in Central African Republic, South Sudan, Abyei and individual positions at the UN.
