At a reception in Davos on Wednesday for Julie Bishop, the UN Special Envoy on Myanmar, Mr. Chinh reiterated Vietnam's consistent stance of respecting Myanmar's independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
Vietnam is ready to work to bring peace and stability to Southeast Asia and Myanmar in particular, Mr. Chinh said, adding that Vietnam is prepared to cooperate with the UN toward this goal, including providing a venue where all concerned parties can meet and discuss a solution to the Myanmar issue.
Ms. Bishop spoke highly of Vietnam's role in the region, and her assessment of the current situation in Myanmar and the UN’s efforts to promote a peaceful solution for Myanmar.
Agreeing with PM Chinh's proposals, Ms. Bishop urged all parties to exercise restraint, cease violence, ensure the security and safety of civilians, and resume a dialogue involving all sides to find a peaceful solution.
