Vietnam stands out for disability-inclusive social protection progress: ILO

(VOVWORLD) -Vietnam stands out among lower-middle-income countries for its strong progress in disability-inclusive social protection, achieving broad coverage through coordinated social assistance, social insurance, and health insurance measures, based on a community-based disability determination system aligned with international best practices, said the International Labor Organization (ILO) on Wednesday.

The ILO’s report entitled “Building an inclusive future: Social protection as a catalyst for disability empowerment in Vietnam” was released in Hanoi to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3).

The report is the first comprehensive assessment of social protection for persons with disabilities in Vietnam.

At the launch event, policymakers and social and development partners listened to stories from persons with disabilities about the barriers and their efforts and resilience, and discussed ways to build a society where persons with disabilities are protected and empowered to integrate, develop, and lead.
