Vietnam is in group D, together with North Korea, Jordan and UAE, which is considered the easiest group, according to experts.

Host Thailand sits in group A with strong rival Iraq, Australia, and Bahrain. Group B, the “group of death,” includes Qatar, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. Group C consists of reigning champs Uzbekistan, South Korea, China, and Iran.

The 16 teams will be divided into 4 groups. The 2 best teams in each group will qualify for the next round. The 4 semi-finalists will represent Asia at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.

The AFC U23 Championship 2020 will take place from January 8 to January 26, 2020, at 4 Thai stadiums – Chang Arena (Buriram), Rajamangala (Bangkok), Thammasat (Pathum Thani), and Tinsulanonda (Songkhla).
