(VOVworld) – The 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly entered its 3rd working day with 5 official meetings including a meeting of the Standing Committee on Democracy and Human Rights where delegates approved a resolution on international law as it relates to national sovereignty, non-intervention in the internal affairs of states, and human rights. Le Minh Thong, deputy head of the National Assembly’s Law Committee, said: "This resolution is of great significance as it reflects the relationship between international law, national sovereignty, and each person. Vietnam has contributed significantly to discussions of the draft resolution in Geneva. Vietnam attaches importance to international law and insists that international law must be taken seriously in international relations and in any issues related to national sovereignty, non-intervention in the internal affairs of states and human rights. In fact, international law should protect human rights. Vietnam welcomes IPU’s approval of the resolution and hopes it will be abided by regarding handling international relations."

A plenary session was held on Monday morning to discuss urgent topics selected from proposals of 9 countries. A proposal by Australia and Belgium to deal with terrorism conducted by organizations such as Boko Haram against innocent civilians, in particular women and girls, was approved. IPU regulations say any member can add a topic to the agenda provided it is of global concern and is approved by a 2/3 vote.
