In an earlier review in October 2025, FTSE Russell determined that Vietnam meets the criteria for classification as a Secondary Emerging Market.
One of the most significant effects of the review is a repositioning of Vietnam within the global capital allocation system. Christine Le, President of the Vietnam Finance and Investment Association in the UK, says Vietnam was previously viewed as a frontier market, attractive for its growth potential but outside the core allocation mandates of most institutional investors.
The progress highlighted by FTSE Russell shows that Vietnam is moving toward integration into the strategic capital allocation structure of global investors. This will not only boost capital inflows but also enhance their quality, favoring stable, long-term investment over short-term, speculative inflows.
