(VOVworld) – Shooter Hoang Xuan Vinh, who won a gold and a silver medal and among top ten medalists at Rio Olympics 2016, arrived in Hanoi Sunday night, with a warm welcome from Vietnamese fans.

He told reporters how much he was moved: “I am very happy when sports fans welcomed us at the airport. I am surprised at such an enthusiastic reception and at the fans’ love for me. I hope that Vietnamese sports will develop in the future.”

Chief coach of the Vietnamese shooting team Nguyen Thi Nhung said she was amazed by Vinh’s performance: “We had planned a bronze medal at Rio Olympics. Hoang Xuan Vinh winning a gold and a silver medal is beyond our imagination. Olympic competition is very tough and Vinh competed brilliantly. I am very proud that my student can bring glory to Vietnam.”

Meeting Vietnam team at the airport, Head of the General Department of Sports Vuong Bich Thang promised to boost sports movement among the people, particularly young students and focus on fundamental sports such as shooting, track and field, weightlifting, and gymnastics for more achievements.
