By late last week, 55 people were killed by the cold snap in Europe, including 21 in Poland. Heavy snowfall and strong winds caused travel chaos in Ireland, Switzerland, the UK, and France. All flights from and to Dublin airport on Thursday was cancelled and the airport was closed. Ireland’s railway system stopped working on Friday and reopened on Sunday. Flight cancelation was reported in many airports of the UK, including Heathrow airport.

In Scotland, a series of airports were closed. Hundreds of people were stranded in their cars because they could not move on the roads. Local authorities advised people to refrain from going out.

The Geneva airport suspended operation on Thursday after snow fell heavily for 3 hours, covering the ground to 13cm. In southern France, airports were severely affected. In Herault region, traffic congestion was reported, leaving 2,000 cars crawling.

Temperatures in Macedonia dropped to minus 18 degrees Celsius over the past few days. An avalanche with gusts of 100km per hour is predicted to hit Ireland, southwestern England, and Wales. The UK’s Met Office has issued a red weather warning for snow - meaning a risk to life and widespread damage. 10 people were reported dead in the UK for extreme cold weather and authorities warned of rising casualties.
