(VOVWORLD) - 257 people were killed when a military plane crashed 30 kilometers southwest of Algeria’s capital on Wednesday, state TV said.

The Algerian Army’s Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah delivered condolences to families who lost loved ones, and urged an investigation of the incident. Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced 3 days of national mourning.
