According to officials, the firing began Sunday evening and continued until Monday morning along the frontier villages of Samba, Kathua, and Jammu districts. Indian guards of the Border Security Force (BSF) said they retaliated against unprovoked firing and shelling by Pakistani Rangers posted opposite to them in these areas. An official said the Pakistani Rangers fired 82 mm mortars, rockets, and other heavy weaponry targeting border outposts and villages. Since August 6th, exchanges of fire have occurred along the border and line-of-control in Poonch, becoming more frequent recently.
