(VOVworld)- President Truong Tan Sang arrived in Maputo on Friday for a 3-day state visit to Mozambique. After the welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Sang and Mozambique President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi held talks.

The two Presidents agreed to increase delegation exchanges, cooperation and mutual support at multilateral forums. They discussed regional and global issues of mutual concern and agreed that more efforts are needed to maintain peace and stability in the world and that disputes and conflicts on territorial disputes need to be resolved through peaceful means in line with international law. They agreed to assign their ministries and sectors to discuss ways to increase two-way trade to 500 million USD by 2020.

Mozambique requested Vietnam to provide support in terms of cage fishing and wanted to expand cooperation with Vietnam in maritime. The two sides agreed to accelerate the signing of agreements on protecting confidential news, extradition, and transferring of prisoners. They reached consensus on the need to organize the 4th session of the Inter-governmental committee to discuss further cooperation. After the talks the two Presidents met reporters where they expressed their determination to further bilateral cooperation in various fields. President Filippe Jacinto Nyusi said:  “In the next five years, the Mozambican government prioritizes cooperation in agriculture, energy, tourism, construction and transport. The two countries agreed to do more to realize cooperative agreements”.

President Truong Tan Sang said during his visit, the two countries agreed to further bilateral cooperation in trade, investment and agriculture:  “Agriculture and fisheries are the potential areas of cooperation for both countries. I hope that Vietnam’s cooperative projects on agriculture in Mozambique will contribute to Mozambique’s poverty reduction. I believe that with determination of both countries’ leaders and peoples, bilateral friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries will be further enhanced for the benefits of both peoples and for peace and prosperity in the region and the world”.

The two Presidents witnessed the signing of an annex to the Protocol on education and training cooperation between the two countries.
