The event drew significant interest from officials, former diplomats, veterans, scholars, students from both countries, members of the Vietnamese American community, and international supporters of the anti-war movement.

The program featured three discussion panels: “From US-Vietnam Reconciliation to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: State to State Relations”, “From US-Vietnam Reconciliation to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership: The Future,” and “Lessons from US-Vietnam Reconciliation: Roadmap for the World.”

Across all sessions, speakers shared a common assessment that five decades after the war and three decades after normalization, the Vietnam–US relationship has made remarkable strides, meeting the aspirations and interests of both peoples, contributing to peace, stability, and development in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.

Reflecting on the lessons learned from the normalization process and the building of a comprehensive strategic partnership, participants emphasized the pivotal role of reconciliation and trust-building.

They also devoted considerable discussion to the message of national reconciliation delivered by General Secretary To Lam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the south and national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2025) which reflects the Vietnamese Party and State’s humane and correct policy on healing the wounds of war, not forgetting the past but being willing to put aside the past, and looking toward the future, in pursuit of a prosperous future of Vietnam and shared benefits for both Vietnam and the United States.
