The incident occured on Saturday morning, local time, when the suspect, armed with a gun and zip ties, entered the intensive care unit and took hospital staff hostage. He later moved outside the ICU, holding a female staff member at gunpoint with her hands tied. The suspect then opened fire, killing one police officer and injuring two others. A nurse, a security guard, and a doctor were also wounded in the attack.
Preliminary reports identified the suspect as 49-year-old Diogenes Archangel-Ortiz. Authorities are actively investigating the motive behind the crime.
