Meanwhile, Hamas said it had “fully met its commitments” by handing over all surviving hostages and the bodies, saying that “specialized equipment” was needed to locate the remaining bodies under the rubble in Gaza.
The statement came after Hamas transferred two more hostage bodies to the International Committee of the Red Cross. To date, Hamas has handed over nine of the 28 hostages. Since early this week, under the ceasefire deal mediated by the US, Turkey, Qatar, and Egypt, Hamas has released 20 living hostages in exchange for nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
