Party leader To Lam and Mr. Jo Yong Won, member of the Presidium of the Politburo, Secretary of the Central Committee, and head of the Organization and Guidance Department of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK), cut the symbolic ribbon to inaugurate the statue.

The event took place as part of the Vietnamese leader’s state visit and attendance at the ceremony marking the 80th founding anniversary of the WPK.

Vietnamese Ambassador to the DPRK Le Ba Vinh stressed that the installation of the statue is not only a source of pride and joy for the Vietnamese people but also for local people, who extended strong support and facilitation throughout the construction process.

Meeting with the Embassy staff, Party General Secretary To Lam affirmed that his visit is a particularly significant diplomatic activity in celebration of the 75th anniversary of Vietnam-DPRK diplomatic relations. It provides an important occasion to reaffirm the consistent stance of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, who always attach great importance to, and wish to further maintain and develop the traditional friendship with the Party, State, and people of the DPRK, he said.

The same day, Party leader Lam laid flowers in tribute to President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary of the WPK Kim Jong Il at the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun in Pyongyang.

Mr. Lam and his entourage also visited an exhibition room displaying artifacts of President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il.

Writing in the guestbook, the Vietnamese Party leader expressed his deep emotion at visiting the palace – the eternal resting place of the two great leaders of the DPRK, who were close friends and comrades of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam. They devoted their entire lives to the independence, freedom, and socialism of the DPRK and laid the cornerstone for the development of the relationship and solidarity between the two countries.
