He addressed the plenary discussion of the Legal Committee (Sixth Committee) of the 80th UN General Assembly, held at the UN Headquarters in New York from Tuesday to Friday. High on the agenda were the rule of law at the national and international levels on the 80th founding anniversary of the UN.
Ambassador Viet said Vietnam has actively engaged in international legal bodies and processes, and made positive contributions to the negotiation and development of key legal documents.
He noted that Vietnam’s hosting of the Signing Ceremony of the UN Convention against Cybercrime Hanoi, October 25-26, demonstrates Vietnam’s strong commitment to promoting the rule of law in cyberspace and joining the international community in addressing emerging global challenges.

As a country that has gone through war and division, Vietnam deeply understands the value of peace and the rule of law, the Ambassador said, adding Vietnam consistently adheres to the principle of resolving all disputes by peaceful means and in accordance with international law.
He once again stressed that all claims and actions by parties in the East Sea (internationally known as South China Sea) must comply with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The Legal Committee (Sixth Committee) is one of the six main committees of the UN General Assembly, comprising representatives of all 193 UN member states. It is responsible for discussing, codifying, and promoting the progressive development of international law.
